Where is Dominion, Texas?

Dominion is located in the northwestern part of the state of Texas, about an hour south of Fort Worth and three hours from Dallas. It is part of Tarrant County and is located in the Texas Hill Country. The city is about 60 miles west of Austin and about 80 miles northeast of San Antonio. Interstate 35 runs through Dominion and connects the city to both cities. Interstate 20 is about 35 miles to the east, and Highway 105 runs through the city from the west and connects it to Interstate 20.

History of Dominion, Texas

The history of Dominion, Texas, begins with the arrival of the first cattlemen in the 1880s. The range was established by the Stockman-Growers Company, and the town was founded in 1889. By 1890, the town had a telegraph office, post office, and general store. The community was known as “Cattle Point” and served as a center for the local cattle industry. The town slowly grew to include a school, railroad depot, and several businesses. In 1902, the city was renamed “Dominion” after the railroad station. By the 1920s, the city had grown to include a bank, several hotels, a weekly newspaper, and a weekly newspaper. By this time, cattle ranching was in decline and the city began to focus on the growing oil industry.
