Helotes is a city located in Bexar County, Texas. It is far northwest of San Antonio. It is part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro statistical area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the population of Helotes is approximately 9,030.

Texas State Highway 16 passes through the town and leads northwest to Bandera. A two-mile loop (3.2 km) southeast of Helotes is designated as Charles W. Anderson Loop, which provides access to the city center.

Helotes is a town rich in history. It was incorporated in 1981 as a Type A, General Law City. The first mayor was Tom Beatty. He was the first African-American mayor in Bexar County. The town had a population of 7,341 at the time.
