Helotes is a city in Bexar County, Texas. The city is located northwest of San Antonio. It is part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area. As of the 2020 census, the population of Helotes was 9,030. It is home to a diverse population of people, including both urban and suburban dwellers.

The city of Helotes is part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA. It is located along SH 16 in the northwestern part of the county. The first settlers came to the area in the 1850s and were intermarried with Apache Indians. They planted a corn field in the area and raised cattle. The city has a thriving economy and offers many family-oriented activities.
Helotes is an ideal place for those who enjoy the outdoors. There are several trails in the town that are open to the public. Friedrich Park, for example, has seven trailheads and ten miles of trails. The trails are paved and unpaved, and range in difficulty. Dogs are not permitted. Helotes has a rich history. It began as a stage stop along the Bandera Road. In 1873, the town had its first postmaster. The town's first postmaster was Carl Mueller, who also ran the Helotes Stagecoach Inn. After a few years, Francisco Menchaca worked as a ranch hand, building a house and cultivating corn. This was the beginning of Old Helotes.
